The title Reopening draws from Iwadobiraki, the legendary Shinto tale in which the gods forced open the rock cave that concealed Amaterasu, the sun goddess. In that moment, light returned to the world, ending darkness through a collective act of faith and celebration. This work reimagines that myth not as historical story, but as an ongoing spiritual condition. The textures suggest stone, veil, and shadow, while the vertical radiance conveys the breakthrough of hidden light. Just as the cave’s opening released the sun, the imagery points to the reopening of spirit within us—when something long obscured emerges into clarity. The work belongs to my Lightself Series, where light is treated not as symbol, but as essence and transmission. Reopening invites the viewer to experience light’s return as both cosmic memory and personal awakening.
