Memory can remain closed for years, sealed beneath darkness. In this work, that enclosure breaks open and a view of Marrakech begins to emerge from within. The black surrounding field is not simply darkness; it represents a memory that had been shut away, inaccessible until the shell was broken.

What returns, however, does not return evenly. The door, which remained especially vivid in memory, appears with the greatest clarity and light. Around it, fragments of architecture and atmosphere become progressively less distinct. The farther they move from the door, the more they dissolve into darkness and texture.

The work reflects the uneven way a place can reappear in memory. Certain details survive with remarkable precision, while the surrounding world weakens, fragments, and disappears. Marrakech is therefore not reconstructed as a complete scene, but recovered through degrees of remembrance, from sharp recognition at the center to near disappearance at the edges.
