Toronto

Toronto brings together events that should never occur at the same time. An ordinary alley stretches into darkness, yet across its surface a different city appears, reflected as if a sheet of water had opened beneath it. The reflection is plausible enough to be recognized, but impossible enough to disturb the logic of the scene. A trash bin seems to float above the surface, while a solitary figure stands somewhere between the alley and the reflected city. Nothing is entirely detached from reality, yet the relationships between objects, place, and gravity no longer agree. Perhaps what has been folded into this space is not another city, but another moment. Separate times have slipped into one another and now occupy the same field. The image remains physically recognizable, but its chronology has broken down. What we see may be a place where space has bent because time itself has become twisted.
