Toronto

Toronto brings together events that should never occur at the same time. An ordinary alley stretches into darkness, while across its surface another city appears, reflected as if a sheet of water had opened beneath it. A trash bin seems to float above the ground, unsettling the logic of gravity. Farther into the passage, a solitary figure stands between the alley and the reflected city, becoming a proxy for the viewer. One more step forward, and the familiar rules of space and time may no longer hold.

The work is concerned with the instability of both space and chronology. The two cities occupying the same field may not represent different places at all, but the same place at different moments. Separate times seem to have folded into one another and become simultaneously visible. What remains recognizable is the city itself; what has broken down is the logic connecting its fragments.
