Kirkjufell

In this work from the City Air series, Kirkjufell remains the central motif, yet its identity is softened by the gradual merging of natural elements. The mountain does not stand apart as a fixed landmark.

Instead, it dissolves into the surrounding sea, the distant ranges, and the pale expanse of ground, so that water, land, and air begin to function as one continuous field. The image is therefore less about describing a location than about rendering a condition of immersion, where forms are retained only to the degree necessary for memory.

Subtle traces of habitation remain, but they are not presented as independent subjects; they are absorbed into the same atmospheric continuum.

What emerges is a landscape that hovers between recognition and disappearance, preserving Iceland’s breadth and stillness while transforming its visible reality into an evanescent, layered experience of nature. Its coherence depends on dissolution rather than contrast or description.
