Reykjavik
Set in Reykjavik, Iceland, this work brings together Ásmundarsalur, a historic art space, with a fragment of a shipwreck, volcanic lava, and the surrounding landscape. Iceland is a volcanic island shaped by lava, water, wind, and severe weather, and these natural forces remain visibly present in everyday life. Against this environment, the architecture becomes a human enclosure placed within a much older geological setting. The shipwreck fragment introduces another layer of history, recalling travel, danger, loss, and the sea that has long defined life around the island. In the image, architecture, vessel, lava, and landscape overlap until their boundaries begin to dissolve. Different scales of time are compressed into one space: human memory, historical remains, and geological transformation. What appears preserved inside the building seems to reconnect with the forces outside, suggesting that culture, decay, and nature are not separate, but part of the same continuing process across deep time.
