CITY AIR develops from the same foundation as City: actual places reconstructed from photographic elements originating in those locations. The streets, buildings, landscapes, and objects remain connected to physical reality, while their relationships are altered through layering, erasure, displacement, and recombination.
Where City often emphasizes tension, spatial instability, and the disruption of ordinary perception, CITY AIR moves toward light, color, atmosphere, and openness. Reality is still transformed, but the transformation unfolds more quietly. Forms may dissolve into one another, distances become uncertain, and architecture can appear suspended within light or air rather than fixed in space.
The identity of each place remains essential. CITY AIR does not turn the city into an imaginary landscape, but reveals another state contained within the existing one—where memory, atmosphere, and perception become as present as the physical structures themselves.
Figuration in Matter
Cloud Gate emerges through layered light, texture, and urban haze. Its reflective mass remains recognizable while dissolving into surrounding matter, shifting between monument, surface, memory, and atmospheric presence within Chicago.

Puglia
Puglia appears twice: one city dissolving into white, another suspended above it. The same place occupies two states at once, leaving uncertain which belongs to reality and which remains elsewhere.
Kiyomizu Temple appears suspended within pale mineral layers. Architecture remains visible yet unstable, dissolving into light and texture until place, memory, atmosphere, and matter occupy one continuous surface without separation.

Venice holds an uncertain phenomenon between light and snow. The viewer must decide whether to name what is seen, or allow the image to remain unresolved, suspended between possible realities.

Tuscany survives as a fractured memory. The house remains visible within overlapping traces, while surrounding space loses a stable order, leaving several possible versions of the same place unresolved.

San Antonio remains an urban canal, yet the weather belongs to the open ocean. Violent wind, rain, and water enter the city, bringing two incompatible environments into the same place.

Boston Harbor appears suspended between present and past: a modern sailboat, a fading skyline, and ghostlike traces of the Boston Tea Party drifting through mist, where memory inhabits the city.

Lisbon dissolves into light. Streets, buildings, vehicles, and the yellow tram are visible as their boundaries fade, leaving the city suspended between physical presence and another luminous and uncertain state.
